When Is Countering An Offer For The Full Asking Price Acceptable As A Seller?

Savannah Marshall

When you're selling your house and your agent calls to tell you that someone put an offer in, you will probably feel very excited. When this happens, you can choose to accept the offer, ignore it, or counter it. There are times when homeowners will counter an offer with a full-price counter, and you could do this too; however, you should only consider doing this in certain situations.

The market is hot

If the current real estate market is on fire right now and houses are selling left and right, you might be able to counter a buyer's offer with a full-price counter offer. Remember, when you counter an offer, the buyer could choose to reject it and move on to find a different house to buy. Because of this, you should use a lot of caution when countering an offer you receive, especially if you plan on coming back with a full-price counter offer. If the market is hot right now and homes are selling for their asking prices, this might be a good time to counter with a full-price amount.

You have other offers on the table

Another good situation to consider countering with a full-price counter is when you have several offers on the table right now. If you have several offers, you will need to look closely at each one to make sure you understand fully what each offer contains and the contingencies in the offers. Being in this position is a good position to be in as a seller, and it might offer a good reason to counter one of the offers with a full-price counter.

You just listed the home

One other good time to consider countering with a full-price offer is if you just listed your home. For example, if you listed your home yesterday and then received an offer from a buyer right away, this could mean that people feel like they are getting a great deal on your home. While it would be nice to sell the house right away, you might be able to get more money out of the sale if you wait a little while or come back with a full-price counter offer.

If you would like to learn more about listing and selling your home, you will need to contact a local real estate agency. An agent can come to your house, answer your questions, and help you get your home listed.
